What are Metrics?

Metric definition: metric is a way to measure an element of a marketing campaign.

Metrics can be used to track and assess performance, efficiency, and progress. This can be in relation to a goal or a key performance indicator (KPI).

Marketing metrics are tracked using analytics software and can include – but are not limited to – the following:

  • Traffic
  • Views
  • Shares
  • Conversions
  • Impressions
  • Likes
  • Comments

Metrics play an important part in the feedback and learning stages of the marketing cycle. They allow marketers to make informed decisions about their next steps.

However, marketers should be wary of “vanity metrics” that seem like progress but have little impact on goals or KPIs.
