Snapchat definition: Snapchat is a social media platform launched in 2011 that pioneered a mobile-first social media movement, and raised the profile of disposable content.

Snapchat’s initial draw to users was that is allowed them to send content – images, videos, and text – that was only available for a specific length of time.

They were also the first platform to add:

  • Augmented reality facial filters
  • Long-form “stories

Because of their smartphone-only focus, the platform became incredibly popular with Millennials and Generation Z.

Snapchat has faced tough competition from its main competitor, Instagram, and has seen its number of monthly users peak and trough. However, they still boast 187 million daily users.
